The two most important components of finding a unique SEO-friendly domain name are commitment and obsession. Part of being a successful online marketer is staying ahead of your competition and doing all things possible to utilize the tools that are given to you via services that exist and advanced search operators offered by the Major Search Engines.

Three ways to find a unique SEO-friendly domain name

1. Domain Auctions & Expiring Domain Search

  • Snapnames.com - One of the most popular domain auction sites which allows you to bid on quality expired and deleting names. (Snapnames.com has an inventory of 1 million + domain names and is projecting up to 10 million previously registered domain names will pass through their auction this year)
  • Afternic.com – Traditional domain auction that allows you to search by categories where you can buy and sell premium domain names
  • Other credible resources for premium domain names available for purchase are Moniker.com, Sedo.com & Go Daddy’s Domainaftermarket.com

2. Domain Name Generators

  • Nameboy.com - One of the oldest tools available, Nameboy.com lets you enter a primary & secondary word to find domains and ads a 3rd component to enter in the type of site you have to find domain names. Also allows you to enter in your preference for hyphenated domains and domains that rhyme with your words
  • Domainfellow.com – Similar to Nameboy.com, Domainfellow.com allows you to attach a category to your keyword for a domain search and adds up to 1,000 popular prefixes or suffixes to that keyword
  • Dnbuy.net – Free wizard that allows two sets of keywords to find domain names

3. Search Engines

  • Advanced search operators offered by the search engines can help you find a great domain name that may be available for purchase. Just because a domain is taken, doesn’t mean it’s not for sale. Again, part of being a successful online marketer is obsession so if you take this route, plan on investing a great deal of time. Start a query at Google.com with [allinurl:] for any term you are interested in for your domain. Start with the root. For instance, if you want to find a domain name that has “losangeles” in it, search Google for “allinurl: losangeles” and you will get a list of websites that have “losangeles” in either the root url or in the extension of the url. Obviously not all the domains will be for sale, but after digging a few pages deep you might find a domain you could pick up for a few thousand dollars by contacting the owner directly. Same thing can be done with Yahoo Search using “inurl:” – “inurl:losangeles

As with any domain purchase, make sure the domain your purchase is short, memorable, not easily mistaken for others & hard to misspell.
