Yahoo launched a beta version of its Go 2.0 offers downloads to over 400 types of devices using their new mobile search. Rather than produce the traditional form of search results, Go 2.0 will return relevant results with a “mobile” bias.
The example given by Marco Boerries, Senior VP for Yahoo Connected Life, shows if a user searches for “pizza” from their mobile device, Go 2.0 will show the results for pizza locations near their location. If you search for Lakers, Go 2.0 will show game times, scores, news articles, images, etc… Here is a link to a tour if you have not seen it already. In the narrative they state that “in the near future you won’t have to enter your location if you have a GPS enabled device.”
Yahoo hopes to make money off of sponsored results and provide the service for free. Kind of takes away from the whole relevance thing but oh well. After looking @ the tour Yahoo offers I think this is the best looking service I have seen for mobile search - I guess I should try it myself before I make a comment!
How do you feel about the comment they make in the narrative of the tour:
“You don’t have to feel lucky to be lucky with Yahoo Search.”
Is this a slam against Google’s “I’m feeling lucky”
